Disney didn’t say how many people watched “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” But Disney said that, based on the number of hours streamed over five days, this was the biggest global premiere of a Marvel movie on Disney Plus. Samba TV, which collects data from more than 3 million smart TVs, said that the movie was watched in 2.1 million homes after it came out (via Deadline).
The movie’s success has been off the charts. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever got five Oscar nominations, which is unusual for a superhero movie. Angela Bassett got a nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role as Queen Ramonda in the movie, and Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” is up for Best Original Song. Camille Friend and Joel Harlow are also up for Best Makeup and Hairstyling for their work on the movie. Ruth Carter is up for Best Costume Design, while Geoffrey Baumann, Craig Hammack, R. Christopher White, and Dan Sudick are up for Best Visual Effects.
Wright has already said that Black Panther 3 is being made at Marvel Studios, but she did not say when it would come out. This shows that the studio is paying attention to the success of the film. The project may have been one of the hardest ones in recent years, so the fact that it was successful is a good sign for the rest of the franchise while Boseman is away. Many people were not sure if the show should go on without him and the character of T’Challa.
