BOGOTA, COLOMBIA: In a strange event, a Colombian judge was seen at her Zoom court hearing smoking and only wearing her underwear. A lawyer told about the incident, which led to an investigation. The judge has now been suspended for three months.
Vivian Polania was seen lying on her bed, and many people think that she might have been drunk. After someone told the 34-year-old that her camera was on and the session was being recorded, she quickly turned it off. Since then, everyone had seen the 33-second video.
A commission in charge of discipline told Polania that she couldn’t do her job until February 2023, so that more questions could be asked. Two years ago, the judge was in the news because she was criticized for posting racy photos on her social media account.
In the photos, she wore G-strings and showed off her workout muscles and tattoos. She told her critics, “Not all judges, lawyers, and other state employees are the same.” She also promised to write more posts like this one to defend herself. I choose what to wear and what to share on social media, and I’m not going to change a thing.”
She says about herself on Instagram that she is “braless and open-minded.” Polania went to a private Catholic university and lives in Cucuta, which is close to the border between Colombia and Venezuela. She hasn’t said anything about being fired yet.
During that controversy, the department dropped the case, and many people said that she was hurting the justice system’s fairness by making people doubt her ability to do her job well.
During that time, news stories said that she was facing an internal investigation because she posted photos of herself in lingerie to get discounts on clothes.

The judge, whose full name is Heidy Vivian Polania Franco, looked like she was having trouble speaking on the video while she was lying in bed. According to the Daily Mail, the hearing was supposed to decide whether or not a man being held for allegedly carrying out a terrorist attack with a car bomb in June 2021 should be released on bail.
In a written decision about the suspension, Colombia’s National Commission of Judicial Ethics said, “This commission must avoid repeating the judge’s disrespect for the investiture of her position and the disrespect she showed with her peers in the public prosecutor’s office, the prosecution, and the defense.
We don’t see why the judge should have shown up in such bad shape when she had her own home and everything she needed to prepare for a public hearing correctly and with the respect it deserved.
