YouTube could be planning a change that many people might not like. It’s said that the video-streaming platform is saving 4K videos for Premium users, so if you want 4K content, you’ll have to upgrade. Some people have posted the same thing on both Reddit and Twitter. Here’s what’s going on. Follow For More Updates on our official website or on Google News
A post on Reddit and Twitter says that YouTube is now adding the “Premium” tag to the 2160p option. This means that people will have to pay to watch 4K videos. Several people are seeing this option, but I couldn’t find it.
So, we still don’t know if this is a test for a small group of people or not. We don’t even know where this change will take effect. YouTube hasn’t said anything about this in an official way.
From YouTube’s point of view, charging for 4K videos will bring in more money and bring in more Premium users, but it might not go over well with users. But again, most apps have started putting some of their features behind a paywall in the name of subscriptions. Some examples are Twitter Blue, Snapchat+, and others. So, this doesn’t seem like a big deal. For those who don’t know, a single user of YouTube Premium costs Rs 129 per month and a family plan costs Rs 189 per month.
To remind you, YouTube was recently criticized for making free users watch 5 ads that they couldn’t skip before a video played. After being asked about it, YouTube said that this is a test and is only for a few people right now. It’s still not clear if this feature will be made official.
So, after testing up to 12 ads on YouTube for non-Premium users, now some users reported that they also have to get a Premium account just to watch videos in 4K. pic.twitter.com/jJodoAxeDp
