Sean Petrie is who? A police officer was looking for the person from the GTA shootout. The suspect in Monday’s shooting spree is believed to have spent over two hours at a Tim Hortons in Mississauga before killing Const. Andrew Hong. Thursday morning, the police held a press conference to provide information about the shooting. They revealed for the first time a detailed timeline of the event and identified Sean Petrie as the suspected gunman.
The suspect arrived at the Argentia Road Tim Horton’s near Winston Churchill Boulevard around noon, according to investigators. According to investigators, he remained in the area for approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes before shooting Hong at close range without removing his police-issued firearm from its holster.
As police later explained, the suspect walked across the street to an adjacent parking lot, where he carjacked another victim. He then continued his spree of violence in Milton.
Hong was in Mississauga instructing a motorcycle training course sponsored by Peel police while he took a break from his lunch to get coffee for his coworkers. When the shooting took place, he was nearby.
During the press conference, Peel Regional Police Chief Nishan Duraiappah stated that Hong’s training partners responded to the shooting. In addition, additional Peel police officers arrived on the scene later.
He worked for the Toronto police department for 22 years and was survived by his wife, two teenage children, and parents.
Michael Mavity, a detective, believes the victim was targeted because he was wearing a police uniform. Police admitted they do not know why Petrie was shot while wearing a yellow construction vest.
