Onyango started his career at K.R.A. after he graduated from Kamukunji High School in Nairobi. In 2006, he played in the National League, which is no longer around.
Two years later, he joined Gor Mahia. Since Jacktone Odhiambo left K’Ogalo for Ulinzi Stars at the start of the 2009 season, he has been the team’s first-choice goalkeeper. He led the team to its first league championship in 18 years in 2013.

Since the beginning of 2011, Onyango has been called up to the Kenyan national team more than once, but he didn’t make his debut until the 2013 COSAFA Cup against Swaziland on July 9, 2013. He didn’t make any mistakes, which helped his team win 2-0.
Onyango was on the team for the 2013 CECAFA Cup, which was held in his home country, but he didn’t play a single game. Instead, he stood on the sidelines and watched his team win their sixth title.
