Many in the school system are incensed over a Prairie Grove school safety film depicting a fictional school shooting and implying that faculty members’ children have been slain.
Teachers in Prairie Grove were given the offensive film and responded poorly to it, according to school district educators who spoke to our content partner, 40/29 News.
Staff members reported that Shayne Taylor, the middle school principal, showed the video on Wednesday.
According to sixth-grade teacher Aubrey Crain, he played a video for us that had depressing music. “And it read, “On December 14, 2022, a shooter entered Prairie Grove Middle School,” in memoriam style. There have been this many fatalities and injuries. The victims included the following:
And on the video, Crain added, “images of teachers’ own children, our blood children, were there with their names as though they had perished in a school shooting.”
According to several teachers, all school buildings—except the junior high—were shown a different version of the safety movie. Staff members of the middle school reportedly left during the protest.
They discussed many safety measures our building does not offer, as we have already stated. However, to make it appear that our kids were killed in a shooting, they grabbed images from our Facebook pages. I feel disrespected and unsupported,” Crain added.
More than 50 parents and teachers came to a special meeting that the school board organized on Friday night.
The board quickly entered executive session, moving into a private space to talk with what was referred to as a personnel matter.
Taylor will be given a leave of absence until his retirement on June 30, 2023, and will receive salary from personal vacation and sick days, they announced when they returned 11 minutes later.
The board also stated that superintendent Reba Holmes will take a leave of absence and receive compensation for her vacation and sick days until her retirement on June 30, 2023.

After the meeting, Holmes thanked the teachers in an email for her 30 years of service to the district.
Pete Joenks, assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction, will serve as temporary superintendent, the board declared.
There are over 2,000 students in the Prairie Grove School District. More than 500 kids in grades 5 and 6 attend the middle school.
The school district and superintendent were contacted by our content partner 40/29 News, but neither party was open to an on-camera interview.
